Good things in small packages
Dublin artist and gallery owner Frank O'Dea sees the funny side of life and he relishes sharing his humour. One of the biggest sellers at his gallery Balla Bán in Dublin's Westbury Mall this year, has been his Golf Ball, and these have sold out at eur10 each of 6 for eur50. A new order will arrive shortly.
Balla Bán is arguably one of the smallest galleries in Ireland but the work circulates constantly ensuring something fresh every visit. Frank explains: "About 20% of the work on display is my own, featuring oil paintings, limited edition giclee prints and subjects ranging from winsome ladies to humourous political statements. Cafe/bar scenes and musicians feature prominently - often with a 'quirky' concept. "My Shady Ladies and Shady Men series of upcycled mannequins, on display in the courtyard outside the gallery and around the city centre are very popular and many have gone to new homes abroad."
The gallery also displays a number of established artists like Graham Knuttel, Tom Byrne, Norman Teeling, Markie Robinson, John Skelton, Jonathan Knuttel, Pervaneh, Pervaneh Matthews and some incredible up and coming street artists, including Solus, ADW and Fink.
