John Francis Skelton "Republic of Moon"
Acrylic on canvas board 20x25cm
Includes a hand written note by the artist with the words:
"Republic of Moon.... So it was that the Apollo 11 mission to the moon in 1969 had three astronauts, but only two would set foot on the moon. Most people know the names of these two but who can remember the name of the third "non-moon-walker", bound to the Mother Ship? Michael Collins was his name, and to the Irish this name conjures up our late great liberator who helped establish our very own Republic of Ireland. Unbeknown to many, his ghost had planted our very own flag there, and declared the "Irish Republic of the Moon". Believe it or not! - JFS "
